We all know the much-anticipated second-generation Renault Captur will hit our shores in the second half of this year. Hooray! More potential excitement is that Renault has added the vaunted R.S. Line magic to the new Captur. We already have the Renault Megané RS and Clio RS models here, so here’s hoping the hot Captur gets added to our list.
Even if we don’t get the R.S. here, the next generation Captur is a big deal. After all, the original has sold 1.5 million in more than 90 countries over the last seven years.
The new Captur was premiered at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show and hit the international showroom floors a couple of months ago. It is a brand new, rather than evolutionary, design that resembles a smaller Kadjar. The Captur is based on the CMF-B platform, the same as the current generation Clio. This platform supports electrification, so the new Captur will be available as a plug-in hybrid in some markets.
The Captur R.S. gets an F1 blade on the front bumper, a honeycomb grille and a grey rear diffuser. Apart from the RS Line badge on the back, it also offers tinted windows, chrome exhausts and huge 18-inch “Le Castellet” alloy wheels.
Inside the R.S. features red trim on the upholstery and red and grey highlights on the perforated steering wheel. A red accent line stretches along with the aluminium door-sill plates and across the facia, through the air vents.
The R.S. Line currently does not include a specific performance motor. The second-gen Captur is available on other markets with 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo giving you 74kW and 160Nm, a 1.3-litre with a range of 96kW and 240Nm to 114kW and 270Nm in the flagship. So plenty of power for a car this size. For those of us who prefer diesel, the new Captur has two updated 1.5-litre dCis to choose from: a 70kW/240Nm six-speed manual, and an 85kW/260Nm with a seven-speed dual-clutch.
What we do know is that the new Captur will arrive here sometime later this year. What we don’t know yet is which engine options we will get and whether our range will include the exciting R.S. Line. We also don’t yet have sight of the price tags.
