Renault x Terrafame for better EV supply

We love it when a plan comes together. Case in point, the good news that recently started doing the rounds about a collaboration between Groupe Renault and Terrafame to secure a sustainable nickel pipeline! This is a big move that will help to bolster the supply chain associated with Renault’s much-lauded e-vehicle offering.

Terrafame Ltd is a multi-metal company producing nickel, zinc, cobalt and copper at its mine and metals production plant located in Sotkamo, Finland. What sets it apart from its competitors in the field is that this company is able to bring to market low-carbon and fully traceable nickel sulphate – a vital component of the batteries that power e-vehicles like the Renault ZOE, Kangoo Z.E, Master Z.E, Twizy quadricycle and Twingo Electric.

As the leading manufacturer and supplier of e-vehicles throughout Europe, Groupe Renault understands that the moves they make in this regard are setting the tone for developments in the field as a whole. As such, their mission and vision are to support ethical, sustainable supply chains and find ways to reduce their impact at every turn. This is where Terrafame comes in.

Gianluca De Ficchy, Alliance EVP, Purchasing and Managing Director of Alliance Purchasing Organization at Renault Group was quoted as saying that the newly cemented partnership forms a pivotal component of their drive to reduce their supply chain emissions by 30% by 2030.

By choosing to partner with a supplier that supports their bid to offer traceable battery chemicals and minimise their carbon footprint, they seek to simultaneously reduce the environmental footprint of Renault EVs throughout their life cycle and take strides towards carbon neutrality for the Group in Europe by 2040.

Another step that Renault has taken in this regard is the choice to partner with Vulcan Energy Resources, a business that aims to decarbonise the transition to electric mobility, through its world-first Zero Carbon Lithium™. Additionally, they also work with Veolia and Solvay to recycle battery materials in a closed-loop

.

This is just the tip of the iceberg where Groupe Renault’s EV innovations are concerned! Check back soon for more insider insights. We look forward to bringing leading e-vehicle tech to SA soon.
