Hot on the heels of the successful launch of the Renault Kwid last year, the French motor giants have released the Kwid Climber. This is an incredible crossover that not only manoeuvres around the city streets with style and aplomb but hits the open road with ease. Designed to explore off the beaten track, where the road is a bit more rugged, the tough little Climber looks set to take the lead in its sector.

While the sporty Racer has been designed with the racing track in mind – it has a more aggressive body that includes a spoiler and diffuser, designed to maximise the aerodynamics for track speed, 18” alloy wheels with low profile tyres as well as bucket seats and a digital rev counter.

The Climber, on the other hand, was designed as an off-road vehicle, with higher ground clearance, bigger bumper and side mouldings. The concept version of this model has been modified and toned down somewhat to appeal to a broader market, and the Climber has been put into production and is currently available in India.

Available in three different colours – striking Electric Blue, Outback Bronze and Planet Grey – all the trimmings, both internal and external, come in a racy orange. Sporting its name proudly on the outside of the car on the front doors and the rear windshield, the Kwid Climber has been fashioned with zooty 18” alloy wheels, a faux silver skid plate, bumper overhangs and bolder fog lamps to give it an altogether more rough and rugged persona.

While it has only just been released on the Indian market, if the popularity and success of the original Kwid are anything to go by, the Climber will soon be seen on South African streets as well.
