As part of its ambitious “Renaulution” strategic plan, Renault Group is leading the charge towards a greener automotive future. This commitment was prominently displayed at the ChangeNow Summit, which took place from March 25th to 27th at the Grand Palais Ephemere in Paris. Joined by its subsidiary, The Future Is NEUTRAL, Renault showcased their remarkable strides in advancing the circular economy and its roadmap for decarbonising its activities within the automotive sector.
The Future Is NEUTRAL: Redefining Remanufacturing
One of the standout announcements at the summit was The Future Is NEUTRAL’s groundbreaking venture into remanufacturing electrical parts. In a first for the European automotive industry, customers of electric vehicles now have the option to choose from a range of quality reconditioned components, including electric motors, power electronics, and traction batteries.
Not only does this initiative make electric mobility more accessible by offering parts at up to 30% cheaper prices, but it also significantly reduces the environmental impact by limiting resource consumption and CO² emissions. From 2024, The Future Is NEUTRAL will produce over 3,000 reconditioned parts dedicated to electric vehicles at the Flins plant in France.
Renault’s Holistic Approach To Circular Economy
Renault Group’s commitment to the circular economy extends far beyond remanufacturing. Across its industrial sites in Flins, Bursa, and Seville, Renault has established a collaborative ecosystem focused on four key pillars: Retrofit, Re-energy, Re-cycle, and Re-start.
Under these pillars, Renault is actively extending the lifespan of vehicles through initiatives like The Renew Factory and The BodyWork Factory, while also facilitating the transition to electric mobility through projects like the Retrofit of Master III Light Commercial Vehicles.
Moreover, Renault is at the forefront of renewable energy production and storage, with initiatives such as The Expert Battery Repair Centre and battery reuse projects led by Mobilise. Recycling and reuse of parts and materials are also central to Renault’s circular economy strategy, managed by The Future Is NEUTRAL.
With extensive training programs and collaborative partnerships like the “Campus de l’Industrie Circulaire” and The Future Is NEUTRAL’s Open Innovation Hub, Renault is equipping its employees with the skills needed to navigate the transition to a circular economy successfully. The Group’s decarbonisation policy spans the vehicle’s entire lifecycle, from design, manufacture, and use to recycling. This commitment has cut the carbon footprint by 25% from 2010 to 2022, paving the way for carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and globally by 2050.
