How The Renault Captur Inspired A New Mitsubishi SUV

According to artistic folklore it was likely Picasso who first said that ‘good artists borrow, great artists steal’. Negative associations with the term ‘steal’ aside, the quote actually alludes to the fact that exceptional art inspires more amazing art, especially when the inspired party goes above and beyond to take the learnings from the initial artists and make it their own.

But wait, hold up, you are on a Renault blog, why on earth are we harping on about Picasso?

Let’s backtrack a little…

What got us in the art-inspired-by-art frame of mind is the fact that Mitsibushi recently unveiled the NEW ASX, which is based on the Renault Captur. So, much in the way that artists Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin often worked side by side, these two auto brands are taking their craft to the next level by gleaning know-how from one another.

Such is the magic of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance!

What Exactly Is This Mitsubishi SUV Taking From The Renault Captur?

The next-generation Mitsubishi ASX is an electrified SUV that will be available in full-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. Especially developed according to the requirements of the European market – it comes to the party with a full package of future-proof infotainment and tech.

Built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-B platform, both the ASX and Captur share similarities with the Nissan Juke small SUV and the Dacia Sandero and Jogger, which also share this base. This platform boasts dimensions of 4,228 mm long, 1,797 mm wide and 1,573 mm tall.

Why Only Launch In Europe?

If you keep your eye on auto industry news, it may come as a bit of a surprise that Mitsubishi is launching in Europe right now, especially after stating in 2020 that they would be concentrating new releases on the Japanese and Southeast Asian markets.

However, an agreement that was made in 2021 between Renault and Mitsubishi has paved the way for two new Mitsubishi models to be built in Renault’s European factories. This includes the ASX, as well as the Colt, a smaller car based on the Renault Clio, slated to be released in Q4 next year.

There you have it – a concise look at the launch of a new SUV which is based on the ever-popular Renault Captur. Check back soon for more info on hot new auto releases.
