Automated Parking Almost A Reality Thanks To Renault And EasyPark!

Renault And EasyPark Partner On Megane E-Tech Electric

Whether you are a super confident driver, or someone who breaks out in a cold sweat every time they need to merge on a highway, one thing is for sure – it would be great if parking wasn’t such a big hassle. Because be honest, even pro drivers would probably like to let the car do its thing in a tight parallel spot on a busy Friday afternoon on payday around knock-off time.

This is why we are so excited to announce that Renault and EasyPark have partnered on the innovative new Megane E-Tech Electric! While fully-automated parking is still a way off, the amazing EasyPark technology that is already available will enable Renault Megane E-Tech Electric drivers to manage the parking process via the car’s display without any physical machine engagement or smartphone involvement.

This is all facilitated by means of an app that is directly uploaded into the car’s infotainment system and allows Renault drivers to experience several new features and possibilities to further improve their intuitive driving experience.

According to Cameron Clayton, CEO of EasyPark Group, the main aim behind this technological shift is to make parking and overall e-car mobility as easy as possible for the end consumer. By using the app to run their tech through the OpenR Link Renault infotainment system, its functionalities become integrated with the vehicle so drivers don’t have to refer to or engage with their smartphones while driving.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Global statistics show that one in five vehicle crashes occur in parking lots
  • This accounts for about 50,000 car accidents per year
  • Most fatal parking lot accidents occur because of a car backing into pedestrians (often children or older adults)
  • Many of these occur because drivers are digitally distracted

As such, technology that lessens distraction while providing clear parking guidance is a boon for drivers and pedestrians alike. This is especially true in a country like South Africa, where urban congestion is at a high rate and parking lots can often be busy and bustling with hawkers and informal traders aside from drivers and pedestrians.

There you have it – the short and sweet skinny on the new partnership between Renault and EasyPark on the Megane E-Tech Electric. We will share more news on this exciting development as it becomes available.
