The New Renault 4: Kicking Up The Crossover Market

The New Renault 4 E-Tech Is Almost Ready!

Renault is set to unveil its highly anticipated Renault 4 E-Tech at the 2024 Paris Motor Show on October 14th, reviving a beloved nameplate for the electric era. This retro-inspired compact crossover aims to blend nostalgic charm with cutting-edge EV technology.

Recently released teaser images offered glimpses of the new Renault 4 E-Tech. The front features an illuminated grille with a lit rim encircling round LED headlamps, making it the first Renault vehicle to feature a backlit brand emblem. At 4.14m in length, the new Renault 4 is easy to manoeuvre.

One of the most exciting features is a retractable fabric roof, echoing a similar option from the original model. The rear showcases pill-shaped LED tail lights reminiscent of the classic Renault 4, while a trapezoidal quarter window sits above the rear wheel. Along the lower door edges, three sculpted ridges nod to the plastic shielding found on later versions. Vertical bumper over-riders add a final touch of retro flair to the design.

A Reborn Classic

The original Renault 4, produced from 1961 to 1994, was a versatile economy car. With over 8 million units sold across more than 100 countries, it became somewhat of an icon. Now, Renault is reimagining this classic for the 21st century, stripping away the off-road cladding seen on the 2022 Renault 4Ever concept car.

The Renault 4 E-Tech will utilise the company’s AmpR Small platform, shared with the recently revived Renault 5. This flexible architecture is expected to offer two battery options. A 40kWh battery is estimated to provide a range of 299 kilometres, while a larger 52kWh battery could extend that to 399 kilometres.

Inside, expect a modern interior potentially featuring twin 10-inch screens with Renault’s latest infotainment system, including Google integration, voice control, and various apps and connected services.

From Concept To Reality

The production of the Renault 4 E-Tech evolved from the rugged 4Ever Trophy concept shown at the 2022 Paris Motor Show. While some of the concept’s more extreme styling elements have been toned down, the overall design retains a charming blend of retro and contemporary cues.

With its blend of nostalgic design, practical crossover packaging, and all-electric powertrain, the new Renault 4 E-Tech looks poised to recapture the original’s resourceful spirit while meeting the demands of modern, environmentally-conscious drivers.

Its official reveal at the Paris Motor Show is sure to be a highlight for Renault fans and the automotive world alike. Sales are expected to begin in 2025.
