Renault Electrifies The Entry-Level Market with New Twingo

Renault Launches An Entry-Level Twingo EV

French automaker Renault has ambitious plans to bring electric vehicles into the mainstream with their popular city car, the Twingo. Renault aims to launch the new ‘Twingo Legend’ EV into the European market by 2026, making electric cars accessible to a wider range of buyers by making them more affordable.

This 100% electric version of the Twingo was unveiled during Renault’s Capital Market Days. Development of the new model will be carried out by its subsidiary Ampere, which is now listed as a separate EV and software company, and it’s expected to serve as the entry point to a new seven-model EV line-up.

Standout Twingo EV Features?

Although not many technical specs have been released, the model will have five doors, breaking from the current three-door configuration. Underpinning the Twingo EV will be Ampere’s A architecture, a new platform engineered exclusively for electric vehicles. Range estimates haven’t been disclosed yet, but if the efficiency figure of 6.2 miles per kWh is accurate, the Twingo should manage over 200 miles from a sensible battery pack.

The biggest selling point, however, has to be its price tag of less than R395 000, around €20000 in its home market of Europe, making it a real option for entry-level buyers to be able to own an EV come 2026.
