Exciting Kwid Upgrades That Has SA Motorists Raring To Go

Kwid Climber

2021 Renault Kwid Climber

Ah, the Renault Kwid! If there ever was a trusty, zippy stalwart, it would be the Kwid. This budget hatch has always brought oodles of strut and personality to the table – at a very attractive price point to boot! It’s no wonder it’s such a firm favourite among South Africa’s discerning motoring public. Plus, Renault has now given the Kwid a bit of a makeover that is sure to make a splash locally.

So, what can SA car enthusiasts look forward to when the new Kwid makes its way to local showroom floors in January 2022 as projected? Here’s a bit of a breakdown:

Beefed-Up Safety Features

Groupe Renault takes safety very seriously, and with good reason – in South Africa alone, there are up to 14,000 road accident deaths each year. This is some of the highest numbers in the world. As such, it makes a lot of sense to invest in a car with top-notch safety features.

On top of the standard Renault safety features*, the all-new Kwid now boasts:

  • An electrochromatic rear view mirror with day- and night anti-glare finish
  • Pyrotech- and pretensioner functionality on the front driver-side seatbelt
  • Dual airbags for the driver and passenger throughout the entire range
  • Rear-view reverse camera

*All models offer standard ABS braking and two airbags and can be optioned with the AMT.

DID YOU KNOW? The first car to offer dual airbags as standard was the Porsche 944 Turbo, in 1987. Also, some of the airbags that General Motors installed in the Impalas in the 70s were still in extremely good condition decades later even though the rest of the cars were ready to be put out to pasture. This type of technology has brought us where we are today in terms of the exceptional safety features drivers of Renault vehicles now enjoy. It’s been a journey to say the least!

Lovely New Cosmetic Upgrades & Functional Convenience

Let’s be honest – we all knew that Renault was going to add some pretties and upgraded functions to the mix. After all, the brand is, above all else, known for its functional aesthetics. As such, the all-new Kwid did receive a little cosmetic and functionality makeover as well. This includes:

  • A dual-tone dashboard with chrome accents and gloss-black trim
  • An all-new Climber trim that features a sleek dual-tone exterior in white with a black roof
  • An 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality
  • Fast charging USB port and 12V sockets in the front and back
