Renault’s New Kwid

The bestselling Renault just got a whole lot better. The revamped Renault Kwid has just landed on our shores and it is a significant step up from the first one.

The first Kwid came here in 2016 and immediately hit the motoring public’s sweet spot, making up a whopping 40% of all Renault sales. This translates into nearly 28 000 cars in that time. The new one is sure to continue this trend.

The Kwid is still very well priced, but it is sharper-looking, handles better and it’s safety has been boosted. The interior trim is better quality and the Kwid offers features normally associated with more expensive cars.

These features include an 8-inch touchscreen MediaNav with Bluetooth, USB, AUX and MP3, as well as a reverse camera. The Dynamique and Climber models offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well.

The list goes on. Power windows front and rear, aircon and remote central locking and electrically adjustable door mirrors are all standard.

In terms of safety, the entire Kwid range now offers dual front airbags, ABS brakes and a seat belt reminder. The new rear axle and improved suspension give as better, steadier ride, a feeling of more control.

The new 14” wheels enhance the SUV look of the Kwid, giving it a class-leading clearance of 180mm. The headlamps have been revised with silver streak LED daylight running lights added. The taillights also have LED guides.

The interior chrome details and new upholstery feels more upmarket. The new steering wheel is sporty and the bold centre facia just feels right.

The front seats feel bigger and more comfortable and there is generous space for all your bits and bobs in the glove box, door storage slots, bottle holders and rear parcel tray. The boot boasts class-leading 297-litres of space.

The entire range is powered by the 1-litre, 3-cylinder SCe engine that gives 50kW and 91Nm. You have a choice of a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox. The manual uses 4.7L/100km and the automatic an astonishing 4.4L/100km. You will get a 5-year/150 000km warranty, a 2-year service plan, one-year insurance and a 6-year anti-corrosion warranty.
