Renault to manufacture affordable electric vehicles

Are you a fan of clean, green energy? What are we saying – of course, you are! After all, with all the data we currently have at our disposal, it’s clear that the time for change is now. Climate change is not a joke, and of the big ways to contribute to a more sustainable society is to align yourself with companies and manufacturers that are moving towards this goal.

Renault is leading the way in this field in more ways than one. Between Renault ElectriCity (the largest and most competitive EV production facility throughout Europe), the imminent launch of the second Renault ‘Refactory’ in Spain, and the FMOTY award the team was awarded for excellence in the EV field, there is a lot to be excited about.

Additionally, Renault is now also striving to ensure that E-vehicles are more competitively priced!

Late in January, it was revealed that Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi were forming a coalition to bring more affordable e-vehicles to market. Sources cited that they are expected to invest a combined 20 billion+ euros (R342bn) in electric vehicle development over the course of the next five years in order to launch five common EV platforms that are poised to yield 30+ new battery-operated vehicles by 2030.

The five platforms, it is said, will include an existing one that underpins vehicles like the Renault Megane E-Tech; while another will be used to bring fuss-free economy cars to market. Two others are in development for Japanese micro-minis, which are called Kei cars. The fifth is earmarked for compact Renault-branded EVs.

It’s with moves like these that Renault is paving the way for a world in which choosing green energy will not necessarily mean that you need to be a part of the 1%. After all, it’s up to all of us to contribute to a more energy-efficient world, and this is a much more attainable goal when there are automakers involved that are innovative enough to think beyond the status quo, and reach for a better tomorrow.
