E-Concept Of The Renault 5 Turbo Unveiled At Chantilly 2022
Electric cars aren’t just meant for the daily commute. That much was made clear when Groupe Renault recently rolled out the R5 Turbo 3E electric concept vehicle at the 2022 Chantilly Arts & Elegance Car Show contest held in France on September 25th.

The singular Chantilly Arts & Elegance Car Show is dedicated to showcasing the most exciting and impressive vintage and modern cars, and the biannual event made its return this year for the first time since 2019. With 20 000+ spectators gathered against the prestigious backdrop of the Château de Chantilly, an hour’s drive north of Paris, Renault managed to steal the show with an e-concept car that’s made for drifting…
Drifting is a driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, with loss of traction, while maintaining control and driving the car through the entirety of a corner. The sport that focuses on this particular driving technique requires plenty of complicated trickery involving a car’s throttle, brakes, clutch, gears and steering input. Naturally, this also requires a very particular type of car.
Cue the R5 Turbo 3E show vehicle, the electric successor of the Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2, and a major milestone in the company’s journey to becoming all-electric in Europe by 2030.
A Car for the Future, Inspired by the Past
The celebrated Renault 5 hatchback still ranks as one of the automaker’s most important products; the 5 Turbo was the sports version first released at the Brussels Motor Show in January 1980. Originally intended as a rally car, it was also road-legal and turned out to be one of Renault’s most successful vehicles. The R5 Turbo 3E is a contemporary take and tribute to the sports versions of the hatchback – the Renault 5 Turbo, and similarly celebrated Turbo 2.

- Charges fully in 2 hours using a 32A charger
