If you’ve been keeping an eye on the blog in recent months, you may have noticed a bit of a trend in the Renault camp.
Between the announcement that Renault ElectriCity has officially been declared the largest and most competitive EV production facility throughout Europe, and the news that the second Renault ‘Refactory’ will be operational in Spain by the end of 2022, everything is aimed at long-term sustainability.
This is why we are so excited to announce that Renault was also recently recognised for excellence in the EV field by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), the top science and technology university in Korea, during their annual Future Mobility of the Year Awards (FMOTY).
What Exactly is the FMOTY?
According to Kyung-Soo Kim, the president of the organising committee of the Future Mobility of the Year Awards, the FMOTY awards provides international recognition to carmakers that have contributed to the evolution of concept cars that fit the mobility of future society.
“While most of the existing car awards recognise the performance and completeness of production vehicles, i.e. the value of car mobility in the present tense, the FMOTY awards look to the values of car mobility in the future tense, singling out brands that drive revolutionary transformation.
“As such, we consider the concept cars that each car manufacturer develops to showcase new ideas and technologies. These are very important resources that inspire our society to find alternative and sustainable futures of car mobility,” he explains.
What will happen at the Refactory in Seville?
The 2021 awards ceremony was held at Renault Samsung Motors in Seoul on the 25th of November, during which the Renault Samsung’s Renault 5 EV concept car received the Future Mobility of the Year award – as evaluated by global automotive journalists.
“This year’s award for the best concept car for a passenger vehicle went to an electric hatchback, the Renault 5 EV. The compact electric car was highly regarded for its revived heritage of popular hatchback and practical approach that realises electric mobility,” said Kyung-Soo Kim.
According to Renault Samsung CEO Dominique Signora, the Renault 5 EV concept car embodies Renault’s past and future as the core mobility model of Renault Group.
