New and updated Renault models for 2022

Jaco Oosthuizen, CEO of Renault South Africa, is a formidable and highly respected businessman. He spent the last two decades immersed in the automotive industry, holding positions in various areas, including financial services, retail, manufacturing (fibreglass canopies and caravans), as well as import and distribution.

In the process, he garnered a reputation for being the ideal candidate to facilitate performance turnarounds in companies, as well as divisions and individuals. Troubleshooting is one of his main strengths as a leader, and his financial background and experience in product strategy, development and network management have resulted in an unparalleled skillset in the South African automotive sector.

As such, it was a godsend to have him at the helm of Renault South Africa throughout the course of the past two years – some of the most tumultuous the industry has ever experienced.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic brought along with it a variety of operational challenges, which included semiconductor shortages and supply chain bottlenecks. However, Renault South Africa managed to pull through and even showed a slight gain in market share in 2021, following the global repositioning of the brand, as well as the release of the all-new Renault Kiger in September.

Now, Group1 Renault is extremely excited to announce the launch of the new Clio V in February 2022, followed shortly by Captur in May 2022. This will be followed by new Trafic models later in 2022, as well as some model enhancements for the current Kwid and Triber models.

As for the notion of a Renault bakkie heading our way sometime soon, Oosthuizen was a little reluctant to give a definitive yes in this regard. According to the South African CEO, getting the Oroch to SA shores is proving more challenging than expected, especially considering the fact that it is manufactured as a left-hand drive pickup in Brazil. This means it would have to be converted and adapted for the SA market before such a thing would even be possible.
