In a united effort, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance pooled all of their skills and resources to create an impressive new CMF-EV platform. It is effectively a redesigned version of the current CMF platform that Renault is already using to underpin most of its vehicles. There are several versions including the CMF-A, CMF-B, CMF-C/D with the Renault CMF-EV platform being the most recent.
Renault CMF-EV Platform For The Alliance
Considering the partnership between the three carmakers, the first vehicle to use the Renault CMF-EV platform is, in fact, the Nissan Ariya electric crossover. The first Renault to be built around the CMF-EV is the electric version of the new generation Renault Megane.
The new platform is extremely versatile as it can handle either two-wheel or all-wheel drive. While the Renault Megane eVision concept will be front-wheel drive underpinned by the CMF-EV platform, the production Nissan Ariya will also have optional all-wheel drive (AWD) for higher-spec models. Renault has released a short video explaining several aspects of this platform.
It appears that the Renault CMF-EV platform will have a very slim battery pack located in the floor of the chassis, about 11 cm (4 inches) tall. This means lower seat placement for more headroom. The impressive design doesn’t stop there as it will also allow vehicles to have a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs. With the electric motor and all of the components only needing a small amount of space up front, that leaves even more room under the bonnet.
When Will They Launch The New Renault Megane eVision?
The Renault Megane eVision concept was revealed at the eWays event in 2020. According to the automaker, it not only features an amazing exterior but it’s a close replica of the production car, around 95%. There’s no definitive date on production of this new EV although sources confirm it will start this year followed by a few other cars underpinned by the new CMF-EV platform.

According to Luca De Meo, CEO of Groupe Renault: “Thanks to our brand-new Alliance platform CMF-EV, we broke the rules of size, use, design and energy efficiency to imagine the Mégane eVision show-car. We fully leveraged the potential of a pure electric platform to re-invent the classical hatchback in an emotional way. With the thinnest battery on the market, a 4.21-metre compact body offering the roominess of a C-segment vehicle, The Mégane eVision is a masterpiece of packaging. We took our 25-year best-seller and took it to the future. Mégane eVision reinvents Mégane, and Renault reinvents Renault. This is just the beginning; a whole new generation of innovation-packed electric vehicles is to come.”
