2020 Renault Sandero
The Renault Sandero Stepway is a firm favourite in the South African smaller crossover segment, competing with the likes of the Polo Cross. It gives you the economy and price level of a good hatch, but with the added nice of its SUV-like look and feel, a higher driving position and a bit more space. And it looks way better than the Logan on which it was based on way back in its first generation in 2007.
The Sandero Stepway is now in its second generation and it has been continuously upgraded over time, with both looks and features upgraded to keep up with market demands.
The good news is that the Renault Sandero has now received the top-of-the-range Techroad moniker recently added to the Duster range. The other good news is that it replaces the previous top Sandero – the Plus – with added features and upgraded styling. The news not yet known is how this will affect the price, although our ever-present spies think it won’t go up by that much.
So for those who love the Stepway Plus, the Techroad retains the chunky 16” wheels, seven-inch touch touchscreen, reverse parking camera, leather steering wheel and cruise control of the Plus.
The upholstery is new, with distinctive blue detailing on the seats and throughout the cabin.
The Techroad retains the popular 0.9-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, offering 66kW and 135N.m. going through the front wheels via the five-speed manual box. It also retains the five-year/150 000km warranty and two-year/30 000km service plan.
The Sandero Stepway has always been a lot of car in a smaller package, with loads of safety features. These include the ABS and EBA, hill start assist, electronic stability, anti-slip, front seat belt reminder, driver and front passenger airbags and ISOFIX at the back for the kiddies.
