2020 Renault Koleos
The current Renault Koleos was introduced to South African motorists early last year reflecting the French automaker’s styling genesis from the 2012 Renault Clio. Now, the company has decided to up the ante with its flagship SUV by adding a few subtle touches in addition to already receiving an electronic handbrake and a powered tailgate.
What’s New on the Renault Koleos SUV?
While the changes may be small, they certainly pack a punch resulting in a stylish, modern, comfortable and well-equipped SUV. Starting with the front, the Koleos grille gets chrome inserts along with a new skid plate on the lower front bumper. They also added chrome underlining in the fog-lamp bezels for a more luxurious look and feel.
The original chrome trimming remains on the front wing but Renault added new chrome wing trims to create the illusion of a longer front-end. Adding to the redesigned lower bumper, the Koleos also gets a brand new set of 18-inch alloy wheels which complement the side protective mouldings beautifully.
Lighting the way at the front and rear are LED lights with the same signature C-shape although the Daytime Running Lights on the front have changed somewhat. They now extend further than the headlight which creates a more focussed look. The Pure Vision Full LED main and dipped-beam lights which are available on selected models, are 20 per cent more powerful than halogen headlights.
The rear features permanently-lit tail lights (Edge Light technology) which enhances the 3D effect and accentuates the 1 840 mm width of the Renault Koleos. Glancing at the lower bumper you will notice a chrome insert extending to the dual-exhaust accompanied by a newly designed skid plate that extends higher on the bumper.
Interior Features and Creature Comforts
The interior mirrors the new chrome finishing on the outside with satin chrome inserts on the steering wheel, gear lever and air vents. To create an even more premium feel, they’ve added foamed materials to the dashboard and door trims while contrast stitching on the leather upholstery and leather-trimmed armrests take the Renault Koleos to a whole new level.
It doesn’t stop there as the interior ambient lighting also features customisable LED cabin lighting. This allows the occupants to choose between a variety of colours from green and blue to yellow, red and violet. Another subtle change is a more concave rear-view mirror with a wide lens shape and you also get warmed and cooled cup holders.
Compared to other cars in this segment, the Renault Koleos has the largest front seats featuring six-way power adjustment and lumbar adjustability which depends on the vehicle specification. The rear seating allows for a 60:40 split which means the 464-litre boot capacity can easily become 1 795 litres.
They’ve also added 35 litres of additional storage which includes an 11-litre glove box and 7-litre cubby in the centre console. Adding to the impressive use of interior space, the SUV gets the R-Link 2 SatNav and Multimedia system with a full-screen display for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (dependent on model).
Engine Specifications and Safety Features Of The New Renault Koleos SUV
The updated Renault Koleos gets the familiar 2.5-litre aspirated petrol engine producing 126 kW and 233 Nm of torque, the same engine as the Nissan X-Trail. Adding to the successful powertrain, all Renault Koleos models have the X-Tronic CVT transmission.
On the range-topping Renault Koleos Dynamique, they’ve added the acclaimed all-wheel-drive system with 4WD Lock mode while the others are front-wheel-drive. The base Expression comes standard with dual-zone climate control, rear ventilation, six airbags and ESC stability control.
The Renault Koleos Dynamique has all the features of the Expression plus a powered tailgate, leather seats with electric adjustment upfront, keyless start, blind-spot warning and tyre pressure monitoring.
