Leading the Way as the World’s Largest Automaker

Groupe Renault Half-year Sales Record

The first half of 2017 saw the Renault Nissan Alliance take pole position in car sales figures. Dubbed “the largest automaker in the world” by Forbes magazine, the Alliance is leading the pack for the race to the top. With over five million cars sold, (5, 286, 079 to be precise) in the first six months of this year, the Alliance outperformed last year’s leader, Volkswagen, by over a hundred thousand units, with Toyota following closely behind in third position. It stands to reason that the Big Three would all be vying for pole position, but thanks to tireless dedication and determination of the Group’s CEO Carlos Ghosn, the Alliance took home the gold medal.

But, it’s not sales figures that drive and motivate the Alliance. “Whether we are number one, number two, or number three. That’s not an important performance indicator,” said Joji Tagawa, chief of investor relations at Nissan. The Alliance partners, which not only includes Renault and Nissan but also Mitsubishi, believe that the way forward and the way to stay in first place is to “continue to leverage our significant economies of scale and global market presence to deliver valuable synergies for our member companies this year, while maintaining a strong technology lineup and offering customers breakthrough electric models,” Explains Group CEO, Carlos Ghosn.

The synergy between the Alliance partners means that the Group can leverage off each member when it comes to production, technology, and ideas. This synergy looks to drive and push innovation in the industry and to set the bar even higher for the foreseeable future. With so little in it, the race to the top looks set to be a photo finish.

With all three of the top motor vehicle manufacturers set to produce in excess of ten million cars each this year, the race to be the world’s largest automaker will be a hotly contested one, and one that will go right down to the wire if the figures from the first part of the year are anything to go by. But, that being said, our money’s on the Alliance.
