Renault has become synonymous with motor vehicle safety. The only car manufacturer to consistently receive Euro NCAP five star ratings year after year, Renault has earned the reputation as the number one car brand in terms of safety and driver’s peace of mind.
2015 saw five Renault Models making the grade for the Euro NCAP safety ratings, and four of those five were best in class.
The Euro NCAP safety ratings are based on a set of criteria developed to test the safety features of vehicles when put through real life crash simulations. The extremely high standards set by the Euro NCAP test have ensured that car manufacturers continue to push the envelope when it comes to safety standards, and Renault in no exception. Not one sit on it’s laurels, Renault is committed to maintaining and continuously improving its safety record. The four categories that are rated during the Euro NCAP safety tests are the safety of adult occupants, the safety of child occupants, the risk to pedestrians and the safety technology in the vehicle.
The five star ratings awarded to Renault were for the Renault Megane, Renault Talisman (coming soon!), Renault Espace, Renault Trafic and Renault Kadjar(also coming soon!). Of these five, four also got best in class awards: the Renault Trafic was awarded best in class in the business and family van category, while the Renault Megane, Renault Talisman and Renault Espace were awarded in the category of safest family car.
Renault has been committed to the safety of its cars since the early days. In 1898, Louis Renault installed a gear train transmission into one of the earliest models, and so began Renault’s groundbreaking safety technology. In the early 1950s a dedicated facility was opened by Renault to test the safety of its vehicles. Throughout the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s Renault continued to innovate and improve the safety of its motor cars. By the 1980s, Renault was leading the pack when it came to motor vehicle safety.
But it was not until 2001 that Renault received its first five star rating from Euro NCAP. The Renault Laguna II saw the French car giants introduce Electronic Stability Control, traction control and third generation SRP. What was groundbreaking then, is now standard in all Renaults. The Megane, the Espace, the Scenic, the Modus, the Clio, the Captur and the Zoe have all followed suit in the years since.
Renault’s safety record has been impeccable. Renault is constantly developing new safety technologies and is committed to improving and innovating at every level when it comes to the safety of their cars. Their commitment is to not only equip their cars with the best technology possible, but also the ensure that they educate drivers about the safety features. After all, a car is only as safe as its driver.
